Effective Leadership in a Remote Working World
Working from home has become the norm since the initial Covid-19 lockdown last year.
Many businesses are considering continuing with either a fully remote workforce or a blended approach once the current crisis is over. Unilever has already said that they will not be returning to traditional office working practices.
As a result, it is important to have a workforce that is able to remain productive, healthy and engaged outside of the office environment.
As a former corporate manager and a digital skills trainer, I have a unique perspective on how these two elements can work together to empower and energise a remote team.
The Challenges of Remote Management
Leading and managing a team at a distance can be very challenging. Technology has allowed an almost seamless transition to home working, but technology can only do so much.
Most people thrive in an office environment, they bounce off each other, help each other out and have manager and colleagues on hand to ask questions. Not to mention the important friendships and relationships we build as part of a team.
Brilliant as technology is it cannot replace the human interaction we all need. As a consequence, remote managers and remote leaders need to work even harder to provide and maintain essential human contact and interaction.
